Mitra Foundation Trust
"Jana Sahayog" as the name suggests, is to create trust and cooperation among the residents of local communities. We initiated this under Mitra Foundation in 2014 to encourage and provide a channel for the residents of LBS Nagar and surrounding area to share their well-being with underprivileged in the area. The focus has been on education related needs in the govt schools and aanganwadi's, conducting preventive health camps, blood donation camps, and to conduct organized activities for the youth of the area, with an intent to provide residents of the locality to contribute.
We hope of making this an initiative that can be replicated in other localities.
We have collaborated with various medical organizations to conduct free Health camps for the local community. In all we had conducted, 1 heart checkup, 1 general health camp, 1 cancer screening camp, and 2 eye checkup camps. Through the 2 eye camps, we had sponsored over 100 free eye glasses and 5 cataract operations to the needy.
We have worked with local communities to organize youth engagement activities like sports competitions, Karate classes, walkathons etc. We have supported Karate training in a local school for underprivileged for nearly 10 years.
Based on the need of 2 local Anganwadi's, we had raised funds of over 2.75lakhs from the local community to expand the infrastructure for the convenience of the 2 Anganwadi operations.
During the difficult period of Covid, we had to expand our activities to the needs of the time. In all we had supported over 4000 meals in the 3 weeks we had this food packet distribution running. During the same phase, we had also sourced and distributed 350 food kits to those in need in collaboration with location community leaders and volunteers in our area and in neighbouring localities as well. we procured over Rs 1 Lakh worth of medicines for prompt distribution of home isolation medical kits and provided it to the local PHC. In all we had 60+ of the community members contribution over Rs 5 Lakhs towards these activities.
As a community we have been conducting regular Blood donation drives in our locality, which we had brought under JanaSahayog initiative. A biannual blood donation camp is organized and we have completed more than 25 camps so far with more than 1400 units of blood donations across these camps for over 475 different donors
